2023 was arguably one of Studio MAPPAโs most fertile years in anime production with titles such as Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, Attack on Titan: The Final Season, and Vinland Saga season 2 hitting the shelves. This year was no different with titles such as Oblivion Battery, Bucchigiri, and the much anticipated Ranma 1/2 upholding the studioโs high-quality output. Needless to say, these 3 upcoming anime projects by Studio MAPPA are bound to get you excited. A mixture of a classic, a modern hit, and an attempt at variety, here are the upcoming anime projects of Studio MAPPA.
The Rose of Versailles (Berusaiyu no Bara)
The Rose of Versailles is a classic manga series written and illustrated by Riyoko Ikeda. It is set to be freshly adapted by Studio MAPPA. The movie will release in theatres in Japan by the end of January 2025.
The narrative is set in France before and during the French Revolution. It revolves around Marie Antoinette, the queen of France, her daughter Dauphine, and a woman named Oscar Francois de Jarjayes, who was raised like a son from birth by her father. She succeeded him as the Royal Guard at the Palace of Versailles. The primary action of the story is centered around the political environment of the time with Oscar choosing to defect to the Revolutionary French Guard due to her realization of the suffering of the French commoners.
ZENSHU
ZENSHU revolves around Natsuke Hirose who is a young animator. The TV series delves into the world of animation and the production of Anime. Colorful and profound, it is a story about artistic creation. In doing so, the narrative of one of Hiroseโs creations is projected side by side. A new teaser trailer that was recently released revealed that the anime would air in January 2025.

Chainsaw Man- The Movie: Reze Arc
Chainsaw Man is inarguably one of the most exciting anime to be produced in recent times. Announced its production in December 2023, Studio MAPPA is testing our otaku patience powers by not divulging a release date!
With that banger of a teaser, Studio MAPPA has established a very high bar when it comes to quality. Narratively speaking, the movie can be expected to take off where the series ended, continuing from Chapter 39 of the manga till Chapter 52 effectively covering the Bomb Girl arc of the manga. The movie will revolve around Reze, the girl in the trailer, who forms a romantic relationship with Denji. However, her character has a sinister background. Set after the events of the Katana Man arc, the film is a follow-up to the first season. Being the teenager he is, Denji has never experienced a strong romantic inclination to anyone. With Rezeโs appearance, the movie is set to tug at some heartstrings while simultaneously rocking them in pure Chainsaw Man fashion.
