Maomao, the daughter of a healer finds herself abruptly taken from her life and thrust into servitude at the court’s lowest ranks. Now simply a maid, she adapts to her routine while keeping her medical knowledge hidden to avoid drawing unwanted attention.
Soon after Maomao’s arrival, the emperor’s young children inexplicably fall ill with symptoms that seem mystical in nature. With her curiosity, Maomao effortlessly unravels the mystery. She discreetly tries to offer help without revealing her identity. However, the witted eunuch Jinshi sees through her veil of secrecy and identifies her.
In acknowledgment of her skills, Maomao is promoted to serve as a lady-in-waiting for Gyokuyou, the emperor’s favored concubine. As she continues to treat ailments plaguing the court with her expertise, in medicine, Maomao’s value becomes increasingly evident and appreciated.
