It has only been a few months since 2025 began, but already, news about the upcoming anime from 2026 has started to circulate. Previously, Fire Force Final Season Part 2, Frieren Season 2, and Hell’s Paradise Season 2 were announced to be released in January 2026. After its announcement in 2024, The Darwin Incident finally released the teaser for its anime adaptation.
The manga was first serialized in June 2020, and the chapters have been collected into 8 volumes until now. The name Darwin Incident is inspired by Charles Darwin, known for discovering human evolution. The Hollywood film series Planet of the Apes has previously explored the concept of human evolution. Human evolution plays a crucial role in the Darwin Incident, and the teaser showcases it very well through the protagonist.
The Darwin Incident Release Window
The Darwin Incident is scheduled to be released in January 2026. The exact release date of the anime is yet to be released. While the anime will be produced by Toho Animation, the broadcast details, streaming, and the number of episodes remain unknown as of now.
What Is The Synopsis of The Darwin Incident?
Charlie is a “humanzee,” half-human, half-chimpanzee. His mother was a chimpanzee who was rescued by an eco-terrorist group known as the Animal Liberation Alliance from an animal testing lab. He was later adopted by his foster parents. When Charlie turned 15, his foster parents enrolled him in a high school for regular humans. At school, Charlie befriends a shy girl named Lucy.
While Charlie tried to make his life as normal as possible, his origins always remained a topic of gossip at school. However, things took a turn when the Animal Liberation Alliance started to bring Charlie into their plan. The protagonist rejects them and chooses to face them to protect Lucy and his family. The story deals with “Terrorism,” “Human Rights,” “Discrimination,” “Conflagrations,” etc., that have an effect on human life.
Characters in The Darwin Incident
As per the official site, three characters have been revealed so far, including the protagonist. They are as follows:
- Charlie – He is the main protagonist of the Darwin Incident anime and belongs to the half-human, half-chimpanzee species. Due to his genetic mutation, he is more intelligent than a regular human and has more physical prowess than a chimpanzee. Charlie was brought up by his foster parents, Gilbert and Hannah.
- Lucy – She is one of Charlie’s classmates at Shrews High School. Even though she has a fearless personality and is an excellent student, Lucy has lost her love for human relationships. However, when Charlie saves her from falling from a tree, she takes an interest in him.
- Rivera Feyeraband – He is one of the antagonists of the Darwin Incident and one of the founders of the Animal Liberation Alliance.
