More than being a great anime, Dr. Stone has done a great job of turning science and curiosity into one of the greatest powers in the Shonen genre. After an unknown attack petrified the world, Senku Ishigami broke out of his petrification thanks to an unknown fluid, and from there began his journey of returning the world to its normal self.
He broke the petrification of several of his comrades, but the journey was not easy since he had to face several adversaries. However, one thing that was constant with him was science. Using his scientific intellect, he overcame all the problems. He invented several things that had gone extinct, with the world getting petrified. Here are six inventions that changed the game in Dr. Stone.
1. The Perseus
Perseus is the name of the ship that Senku Ishigami built to travel to the United States of America. While Japan has its perks, the USA has vast lands of corn fields, which are the crucial ingredient for creating the Revival Fluid to bring back people from petrification. However, with the world losing its communication and transport system, there was no way to reach the USA. The protagonist of Dr. Stone took it upon himself, and along with his friends, he created a massive ship with proper storage, a kitchen, rooms, etc., to traverse the oceans and reach his destination.
2. Water-Powered Generator
In a world where everything has come to a standstill, having some kind of electrical energy seems like a distant dream. However, in Dr. Stone, Senku made the impossible dream a reality by creating a Water-Powered Generator to create energy, with the help of Chrome and Kaseki. He installed water-wheels and with them charged lead-batteries, which further powered other inventions. It is a genius trick to let Mother Nature do all the work with minimal effort.
3. Lenses
Lenses or glasses are essential since they can help numerous people see things more clearly. Senku created crystal glass using powdered silica, burnt seaweed, calcium carbonate, and lead. He further experimented with crystal glass and created lenses to treat individuals suffering from myopia and hypermetropia in Dr. Stone. One of his very first patients was Suika, whose vision drastically improved after the lenses. Later, Kinro also benefited from this invention. The lenses were further used in other inventions, with one of them being the telescope.
4. Sulfa Drug
While the other inventions on this list helped Senku fulfill a greater desire, the invention of the Sulfa Drug paved the way for everything. When Senku visited the Ishigami Village, he encountered a sickly Ruri, who was suffering from a bacterial infection. The Sulfa Drug, also known as Sulfanilamide, created an antibiotic resistance similar to that of Penicillin, which Ruri gets better. In the process of treating Ruri, Senku gained the trust of the Ishigami Village, which helped him further in his quest.
5. Revival Fluid
Revival Fluid is the invention that has carried the Dr. Stone anime to its fourth and final season. Without it, there would be no people to help Senku in his adventure. As the name suggests, the Revival Fluid is the cure for returning people from petrification. Pouring it on top of them helps break the outer shell, bringing out the human trapped within it.
Initially, Senku used naturally occurring Nitric Acid as the Revival Fluid, but since it was impossible to revive so many people with such a small quantity, he invented the fluid, consisting of 30% Nitric Acid and 70% pure alcohol. Thanks to this invention, fans got to see a bunch of cool inventions in the following episodes.
6. Cell Phone
The Cell Phone is one of the most used and crucial daily-use devices in the modern world. Thanks to the petrification of humans in Dr. Stone, people remained as rocks for three thousand years before Senku Ishigami revived a few of them. With no cell phone around for communication, the genius mind of the protagonist built a new one from scratch.
However, it was not particularly a cell phone that people used to have, but rather a portable one that could only be used to receive calls over a certain radio frequency within a certain range. The invention greatly helped Senku and his team to communicate with each other and relay crucial messages.
