Dr. Stone: Science Future is headed towards its conclusion, with Part 2 already having released 12 episodes. Senku Ishigami and his team have travelled the oceans to reach North America and yet they have not confronted the one responsible for petrifying humans for thousands of years. The questions still linger โ Who is the Why-Man? Unfortunately, there is not one Why-Man, but multiple Why-Mans in Dr. Stone. It might sound absurd, but it is the truth, as manga readers are familiar with it. Also, if this feels absurd, then the Why-Manโs true nature will shock everyone.
Why-Man’s Identity
Throughout the series, it has been portrayed that Why-Man is a person who is more than a few thousand years old and resides on the Moon. He resembles a black mass with a skull-like face, thin hands, and legs. However, Why-Manโs real looks are nothing like what it has been shown. It might come as a shock to many, but the Petrification Device, popularly known as the Medusa Device, is the actual Why-Man. Yes, Why-Man is not a human being but rather a device that petrified the entire human race.
Although they are a device, they can perceive and respond to emotions. They can understand what others are saying, and everything that conversation that Senku had with the Why-Man was actually the Medusa Device speaking. The devices can interact with each other, can fly without being affected by gravity, and due to their choices, there are also quarrels happening between them. More than devices, the Medusa can be identified as mechanical parasites.

How Is The Why-Man Connected To The Medusa Device And What Are Its Intentions?
The Why-Man has no connection to the Medusa Device since they both bear the same identity. Since the Medusa Device communicated with the Earthlings using Morse code by saying โWhy,โ it was named the Why-Man. By that logic, every petrification device is called the Why-Man. The trefoil knot-shaped device petrified the humans to let them have the gift of eternality, and also flaunted their petrification ability.
It was their method of increasing the scientific curiosity of that species by experimenting and finding out how the petrification works. In the process, the species affected by petrification will create more such Medusa Devices, increasing their numbers. Since they are mechanical beings, it is the only way that they can reproduce and move on to other planets, and further reproduce in the same manner.
