Solo Leveling Season 2: Arise from the Shadow Episode 13 was the season’s penultimate episode, leaving the fans yearning for more. After a great fight, which Sung Jinwoo entirely dominated, the protagonist killed the Ant King and turned him into his Shadow Soldier.
Until now, Igris, Tusk, Iron, and Kargalgan were his most potent soldiers, but now that place has been taken by the Ant King, who was named Beru by Jinwoo. However, there is something different about Beru, and it got people asking multiple questions. As of Solo Leveling Season 2’s finale, Beru is the only Shadow Soldier capable of conversing with Jinwoo.

How Is Beru Different From The Rest Of The Shadow Soldiers?
The Ant King was the overarching antagonist of the Jeju Island Raid arc, and after being defeated, he became the strongest Shadow Soldier of Sung Jinwoo. For the past two seasons, Sung Jinwoo has gone through several perilous dungeons where there was a life risk, and each time he came back stronger. However, the Ant King was his strongest opponent yet as he had to face the beast in his most potent state as of Solo Leveling Season 2. While other potent Shadow Soldiers like Igris and Kargalgan level up after fighting through battles, Beru starts with the General Rank, which is still higher than the other Shadow warriors.

Beru’s General Rank Allows Him To Talk
After using Shadow Extraction on the Ant King, Sung Jinwoo was shocked to hear the shadow speaking. It asked to be given a name, and the protagonist named it Beru. The notion of a talking Shadow Soldier surprised many, but it had nothing to do with Beru’s ability to talk being dying. He was granted the ability to converse because of his General Rank. From the General Rank, any Shadow Soldier will be able to talk and have a conversation with their master.
In the future, when Igris levels up to be in the General Rank, he will also be able to talk. Likewise, one of Sung Jinwoo’s most infamous Shadow Soldiers, Greed, will also possess this quality. While the manhwa has laid out the facts, the anime has yet to establish them and might do so in future seasons. Beru remains the only one in two categories, talking Shadow Soldier and the General Rank.
