Lord of Mysteries is filled with supernatural elements that make it a unique and exciting watch. The storytelling is one of the best aspects of the donghua, with Beyonders controlling most of the things. While people desire to be a Beyonder to gain potent abilities, there are also some great risks surrounding it.
There are several levels to being a Beyonder in Lord of Mysteries, and the risk lies within every level. To become a Beyonder, one must either consume a Potion of a specific Pathway, use a sealed artifact, or worship divinity to earn their blessing. These ways can turn a person into a Beyonder, but there are several factors that can potentially corrupt the Beyonder Characteristics, making them go berserk and lose control.
What Makes A Beyonder Lose Control Of Its Body And Mind?
Upon consuming a Potion, the Beyonder Characteristics are introduced to their bodies and minds. Since the Potions are derived from mythical creatures, they have a tendency to revert to their original form. If the Potions are not digested properly, the chances of going berserk increase. In turn, the Potion slowly starts to corrupt the Beyonderโs mind, making them lose their humanity and turn into the creatures from whom the Potion was sourced.
As a Beyonder progresses through the Sequences, they become stronger, and so does the danger of turning into monsters. While it has not been explicitly revealed how many Beyonders have lost control, the numbers are pretty significant, with Old Neil of the Hermit Pathway, Havre (Captain of Mandated Punishers), and Sirius Arapis being some of them. High-level Beyonders are always facing the risk of losing control and fighting against the madness. They need to be careful while consuming the Potion of the next Sequence, too.

Attaining forbidden knowledge or looking at the face of a God can also turn Beyonders into monsters. Sometimes, the Beyonder Characters can also carry the will of the original source, which in turn might clash with the Beyonderโs will. It can lead to internal conflicts and corruption of the soul. Also, some Sequences have specific vulnerabilities limited to them. Even emotional and psychological factors like feeling guilt or shame, sadness, betrayal, etc.
What Are The Stages Of Losing Mind And Soul In Lord Of Mysteries?
There are several stages of losing control for a Beyonder. In the initial phase, they will experience hallucinations, and as the corruption of the mind progresses, they will start displaying strange and terrifying states. Lastly, when they fully lose control of everything and get overwhelmed by the Potion, they will transform into a terrifying monster and become a berserker.

How To Minimize The Chances Of Going Berserk?
It is crucial to have a strong will as it reduces the chances of getting corrupted easily. The best method of minimizing the chances of going berserk or losing control of themselves is by the Acting Method. In the acting method, the Beyonder has to act according to the name of their Potion. For example, in the Seer Pathway, Sequence 8 is called Clown Potion, and when consumed, one should act like a Clown for better and faster digestion of the Potion.
It is a safe method and helps Beyonders progress to the next Sequence without any risk of losing themselves. The Acting Method is a successful method because it tricks the Potion into thinking that the Beyonder is indeed the mythical creature from whom it was sourced, due to them acting in that manner. Also in higher Sequences, Beyonders often take support from Anchors to keep themselves stable.
