On July 5, 2025, the official teaser of Kamome Shirahamaโs Witch Hat Atelier (Tongari Boushi no Atelier) anime was released. It showcased a breathtaking anime with a color palette that was remarkable. The animation was looked after by Bug Films, the studio behind Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead.
The teaser revealed that the anime was supposed to release in 2025, but now, with almost three-quarters of 2025 gone, the fans found out about some saddening news. The latest announcement revealed that the Witch Hat Atelier anime has been postponed by a year and will premiere in 2026. With so many great anime releases in 2025, the hope of getting to see Witch Hat Atelier will never be fulfilled.
Why Witch Hat Atelier Was Postponed?
Kamome Shirahamaโs Witch Hat Atelier has been postponed to 2026 because the crew is not satisfied with the animation and wants to improve. As per the official notice from Witch Hat Atelier, they do not want the fans to enjoy a half-hearted anime. They want Witch Hat Atelier to premiere with all its charm and deliver entertainment in its highest quality. They even apologized to the fans for the delay and are hopeful that they will soon be able to reveal an official release date.
What Is The Story Of Witch Hat Atelier?
A dressmakerโs daughter, Coco, is fascinated by magic, which led her to venture into spying on a skilful witch named Qifrey, even though there are strict restrictions on witches hiding their craft. After the experience, she learns that her favourite book is a magic book in disguise. When an excited Coco tries to perform a spell, it backfires.
Fortunately, Qifrey arrives in time to save Coco. Qifrey reveals that an organization named Brimmed Caps is causing disasters by spreading magical artifacts among the common people and performing forbidden magic. Together, Qifrey and Coco set out on a journey to face the evil organization, with the former training the latter to become more magically able.
Witch Hat Atelierโs Quality Is Showcased Through Its Award Cabinet
Expectations from Witch Hat Atelier are quite high since it is one of the most celebrated manga series, with more than 5.5 million copies sold since it was first serialized on July 22, 2016. It has won multiple awards like the Les Mordus du Manga (France), Ridibooks Comic Award (Korea), Harvey Award (America), etc. There is also the possibility of it winning more awards in the future since it is an ongoing manga.
Due to its high-quality content, the directorial duties were given to Ayumu Watanabe, known for Summer Time Rendering, with music and character designs created by Yuka Kitamura and Kairi Unabara. Unfortunately, fans wonโt get to enjoy this combination until 2026. Although the news saddens them, they want the best for the anime and eagerly await its release.
