World of Clevatess brings forth an imaginary continent named Edthea, made up of five kingdoms. These five kingdoms are Hyden, Boelate, Eslinn, and the last two remain unknown. While humanity resides in these kingdoms, their freedom is limited as the continents North, South, East, and West are ruled by the Four Lords of the Dark Beasts: Vordein, Clevatess, Laswell, and Zavthier, respectively. These beasts are the oldest and strongest living creatures, possessing great magical prowess. The regions they rule remained unexplored by humans as they are afraid and weak to venture into them.
However, the Kingdom of Hyden is known for selecting a few capable soldiers, who are known as Heroes. The Heroes are blessed with weapons made from archanacite, which can slay Dark Beasts. When 13 Heroes are selected to slay Clevatess, they miserably fail to accomplish their mission, causing Clevatess to destroy the Kingdom of Hyden and murder the King. However, he takes the heir of Hyden, Luna, with him, and takes care of her, revives Alicia Glenfall, one of the fallen heroes.
Clevatess Brings Great Kingdoms On Plate
The Kingdoms of Edthea are located in different locations, with the Kingdom of Hyden located in the southern part of Edthea. The kingdom was initially ruled by King Hydelius V, and the 13 heroes emerged from nearby towns. Unfortunately, the Hyden was weakened after Clevatess’s massacre, giving a chance for other kingdoms to attack it. The Boelate Empire, located in the northeast of Edthea, is a large nation and found the recent happenings to be a great chance to attack Hyden. Being a powerful nation with a large military, with a tendency to expand, it happened to be a perfect moment for them.
On the other hand, there is Eslinn, sharing a border with Hyden and Boelate, with a vast ice sheet covering its northern side. Eslinn always has to be on its feet, as it has to keep up with Boelate’s expansion policies and maintain peace among nations. Apart from these human habituated places, there are the Great Western Forest, Southern Badlands, and other unexplored areas where the underlings of the Dark Beasts reside.
Clevatess Portrays An Array Of Characters
The story of Clevatess revolves around the character of the same name, who is one of the Four Lords of the Dark Beasts and the ruler of the South. While his true form is that of a massive, multi-tailed Ram, he has taken on a human appearance to blend in with humans and adopted the alias Klen. On his journey to learn about humanity, he is accompanied by Alicia Greyfall, a hero, and an infant named Luna, who is the heir to the Hyden Kingdom. Then there is Nelluru, who was a prostitute and a slave under the Ravens, but has joined the protagonist’s gang on their journey.
General Drel
Drel, one of the leading generals of the Boelate Kingdom, is extremely powerful. His motive is to conquer others, and he possesses a demonic sword. The large stature general is accompanied by two High Wizards, Maynard Swan and Naie Chiffonlitz. Both of them are powerful wizards and are loyal to General Drel. While Maynard is the master of insects, Naie happens to be the master of magnetism. Apart from them, there are two supporting characters named Rod Reyes and Mikel. The former is one of the strongest heroes of Eslinn, and the latter is Rod’s second-in-command.
The Ravens
On the other hand, there are The Ravens, a group of bandits operating on the outside of the old Manahydrite mine, located on the outskirts of Hyden. The Ravens are led by a malicious and greedy individual named Vroko, along with Carmel, the leader of the prostitutes. The Ravens serve as supporting antagonists, indirectly aiding the Boelate Empire in its takeover of the Hyden Kingdom by gathering information and trafficking children.
A Tale of Blood Magic, Betrayal, and Dark Beasts
Clevatess begins on a note of destruction with humanity trying to one-up the Dark Beasts by not only invading their space, but also planning on annihilating them. However, they have constantly fallen victim to the Four Lords of the Dark Beasts, and this time also there was no difference. This act enraged Clevatess, the ruling Dark Beast of South, launching an attack on Hyden, and thus begins the story of the anime. At this point, there is a reversal of action between the Beasts and humanity. While Clevatess begins his journey of exploring and learning about humanity, humans have resorted to wars with each other.
Klen, Clevatess’s human form, is in the possession of the heir of Hyden Kingdom, Luna, who happens to be from the bloodline that can slay the beasts, yet the Dark Beast Lord is doing everything to protect him. Elsewhere, there is an ongoing war between Boelate and Hyden. The General of Boelate, Drel, is not only on a path of conquest but is trying to get hold of The Forge, where magic weapons are forged. While the heroes are trying to end the Dark Beasts, Drel has accepted that the Dark Beasts are more powerful and is working with them.
On the top, it may feel like a normal war, but there are darker ploys at play, and someone is controlling situations from the shadows. It is not only humans who are suffering, but also the beasts, which has led to the Four Lords of the Dark Beasts taking action. The drastic change in tone from a basic hero vs. villain plot to a complex one has made the anime more exciting. The geography is yet to be explored to its entirety, leaving room for others to influence the plot accordingly. Clevatess showcases a never-ending cycle of violence, and it gets darker as one progresses into the story.
