Netflix’s Devil May Cry saw a bunch of positive reviews rolling in after its release, which ultimately led to the showrunners announcing a second season. Apart from Adi Shankar’s contribution, the Korean animation studio Studio Mir also played a crucial role in the series’ success with its amazing animation sequences highlighting Dante and The White Rabbit to the fullest.
With Devil May Cry’s success and season 2 announcement, Studio Mir is most likely to return to animate the sequel, too. While most people might think that Studio Mir got their breakthrough with Devil May Cry, but their portfolio is nothing short of amazing. They have worked on some great projects, including anime, animated series, films, shorts, and video games, and their upcoming ones are just as interesting as the previous ones. Also, they regularly collaborated with both Marvel and DC.
Studio Mir’s Rise From Korra to X-Men ’97 and Beyond
Compared to other animation studios, Studio Mir is comparatively newer, formed in 2010. Since its inception, Jae-Myung Yu has been its president, and he is known for directing the animation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. After the formation of the animation studio, they worked on popular projects like The Legend of Korra, the sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series was released in 2012, which was in the company’s early years.
As the popularity increased, Studio Mir landed more projects and worked on X-Men ’97, the sequel of the popular series X-Men: The Animated Series, which ran from 1992-1997. Other popular series include Lookism, My Adventures with Superman, The Boondocks 4, Guardians of the Galaxy: Origins, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, etc.
Their other popular works are as follows:
- WATCHMEN Chapter 1
- WATCHMEN Chapter 2
- Babylon 5: The Road Home

Studio Mir’s Upcoming Projects
Studio Mir’s past works can easily make other popular animation studios jealous. Apart from having a great portfolio, the animation studio has tons of projects lined up for them. After their recent success with Netflix’s Devil May Cry and The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, they will be eyeing the sequel of X-Men ’97 and My Adventures with Superman. Giun Ryu and Mun Jeong Hoo’s magnum opus, Gosu, is the upcoming project of Studio Mir.

One of the best things about Studio Mir is that they always try to put their little spin on the story they are animating. Be it an original series or an adapted one, the animation style with chiseled characters and fine details has always been their go-to. During the WATCHMEN series, they had a different kind of animation compared to The Boondocks, but the chiseled figures made it more Studio Mir-esque.
They have a knack for exploration, but sometimes they shift to a single style, like Devil May Cry and The Witcher had the same kind of detailing. There were times when the Korean animation studio adapted a more cartoonish style, such as Road to the Cup and Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts.
Studio Mir may not be a decades-old name, but their work and effort behind every project are surely paying off.
