Since the start of Jujutsu Kaisen, the anime positioned a character with the same appearance as Suguru Geto as its overarching antagonist. However, that illusion didn’t last for long, as the climax for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 revealed that the enemy pulling the strings was never Geto, but an entity far older, Kenjaku.

Kenjaku is an ancient Curse User who has existed since the Heian Era by stealing other people’s bodies. That said, he did not steal bodies just to stay alive for longer, but to also quietly manipulate people’s bloodlines the way it would help his grand schemes of things, setting the stage for Jujutsu Kaisen’s greatest tragedies.

Kenjaku Has Changed His Body Countless Times in Jujutsu Kaisen

Over the 1000 years, Kenjaku has changed his body countless times. However, the series has only outlined four of them.

Hajime Kashimo’s acquaintance

400 years before the modern era, Kenjaku stole the body of someone in the Edo Period. During his time in the body, Kenjaku got acquainted with the “Lightning God” Hajime Kashimo and made a Binding Vow with him. In return for Kenjaku turning Kashimo into a cursed object and incarnating him in the modern era, Kashimo would get to fight Ryomen Sukuna.

Noritoshi Kamo

During the Meiji Era, Kenjaku transferred his brain into Noritoshi Kamo, a member of the Kamo Clan, known for their Blood Manipulation.

As Noritoshi, Kenjaku experimented with a woman capable of giving birth to human-spirit hybrids. The experiments resulted in the woman having nine pregnancies and nine abortions that led to the creation of the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings. Kenjaku later introduced Noritoshi’s blood into the Death Paintings, granting them the Kamo Clan’s Blood Manipulation.

Kaori Itadori

Kenjaku wished to make the perfect vessel for Ryomen Sukuna. Hence, he stole the body of Kaori Itadori, Jin Itadori’s deceased wife. As revealed by Sukuna, Jin Itadori was the reincarnation of Sukuna’s twin brother. Hence, an offspring made by their conception was bound to be the ideal vessel for the King of Curses. In addition, after Yuji was born, Kenjaku sealed one of Sukuna’s fingers within him.

Suguru Geto

In the modern era, after Suguru Geto passed away, Kenjaku stole his body to attain his innate technique: Cursed Spirit Manipulation. While in the same body, he sealed Satoru Gojo and absorbed Mahito, putting his plans into action to set up the Culling Game.

What is Kenjaku’s Innate Cursed Technique?

Kenjaku’s innate cursed technique is Brain Transplant. He can steal other people’s bodies by transplanting his brain into his target’s body. Once inside the body, Kenjaku gains access to the host’s cursed energy, techniques, and all their memories. While he can also use the cursed techniques of his previous hosts, there is a limit to how much information his brain can store before overloading.

How did Kenjaku choose his targets?

Kenjaku wanted to forcefully evolve humanity by merging all non-sorcerers with Tengen. However, before he could put his plan to work, he wanted to experiment. Thus, his time as Noritoshi Kamo served as an experimentation period.

Following that, Kenjaku needed to do two things: bring back Sukuna and seal Satoru Gojo. Hence, he stole Kaori’s body to prepare a perfect vessel for Sukuna and stole Geto’s body to steal his Cursed Spirit Manipulation and seal Gojo. Only after that, he was able to set his grand scheme into action.
