One Piece chapter 1171 dives deep into the core of the land of Elbaph. While starting off as a land of proud warriors and ending up becoming a battlefield shaped by regret, forbidden power, and political manipulation, all explained through the memories of Loki.
Echiro Oda’s masterpiece has finally come to explain the aftermath of Harald’s death and Loki’s true power, one that can stop immortality. Not only does the chapter cover the present relationship between Loki and Hajrudin, but it also covers the prior leaping into battle after being tied up for a long time. So without further ado, let’s break down some of the key moments from the upcoming episode.
Loki’s Past, Harald’s Death, and the Cost of Power
Chapter 1171 starts off with a reality check of Harald’s death. Even with Imu’s Abyssal Covenant, which granted immortality, Loki was able to defeat and kill Harald using the legendary Devil Fruit, considered to be the “Treasure of Elbaph.” The panel then shows a surprised Gaban and Jarul reflecting on how overwhelmingly powerful this devil fruit is.
At that moment, in the past, we see through Shank’s memory that Harald’s ambition was deeply tied to the “Knights of God,” a choice that now feels less like pride and more like a fatal compromise. It is maybe after witnessing Harald’s condition with Imu’s contract that the red-haired pirate thinks of ways to get rid of the mark. One being getting bitten off by a sea monster while saying Luffy, which could be a major win-win situation for Shanks.
The next set of panels brings the emotions out for the chapter, showing Loki sitting beside Harald’s body, indicating the rage and grief he is filled with, not as an antagonist, but as a son burdened by consequence.
This chapter also brings Imu’s side of the story, where the one who sits on the empty throne explains how Harald was no ordinary pawn. His death, even after being granted immortality and strength, was a shocker to all, especially Imu, who clearly witnessed something like this for the first time.

Ragnir, Niflheim, and Elbaph’s Future at War

The story then comes back to the present, showing Draugr, born from the MMA’s chaos (Killingham’s work), plunging into the underworld. This completely changes the pace of the narrative, bringing Loki to the frontlines as he takes charge against the Draugr.
While being free from the chain, Loki and Hajrudin have come to an understanding, but the latter still hasn’t forgiven him for his other misdeeds. Loki, with Ragnir in hand, flies directly to battle, just with one small addition (pun intended): Luffy sitting on his shoulders, clinging on in pure excitement to see him in action.
The final double-page spread is one that contains one of the most exciting scenes from this chapter. The panel shows Loki striking down Ragnir using the attack “Niflheim,” freezing the Draugr instantly. The name given to this attack indicates that the land of Elbaph has hidden strengths that are far older than even the Devil Fruits, and Luffy’s stunned reaction seals it. The way Oda has introduced Norse mythology with Loki’s name and now his attack could potentially lead to giving us more information on his powers and Devil Fruit.
