With the release of Gachiakuta episode 24, the Bones Film anime has finally ended. While the anime concluded on a rather anticlimactic note compared to the previous episodes, it left fans with one vital piece of information in the end. Rudo Surebrec is related to someone from the Ground.
As revealed at the end of Gachiakuta episode 24, the Watchman Series’ logo is used to represent one of Canvas Town’s first spellcasters, Macaca Icol’s best friends, the Undertaker – Canis Surebrec. While the anime did not reveal how he was related to Rudo, they do share the same last name, “Surebrec.”

How is Rudo Surebrec related to the Undertaker in Gachiakuta?
The Undertaker, Canis Surebrec, is an ancestor of Rudo Surebrec. While the anime hasn’t revealed how the two are related, Canis was one of Macaca Icol’s best friends. And as revealed by the anime, Macaca Icol was Canvas Town’s first spellcaster, a position that was established six generations ago.’
As such, given the time difference, there is a chance that Canis Surebrec might have been Rudo’s third great-grandfather.
For the longest time, Rudo believed that he was a Spherite. However, if Canis was one of Macaca Icol’s best friends, it likely means that Rudo’s bloodline is linked with the Ground. The only question is whether Canis himself was from the Ground or the Sphere.

Who was Canis Surebrec in Gachiakuta?
Canis Surebrec was an undertaker from six generations ago. He was the original owner of the Watchman Series and hence, was speculated to have the ability to freely travel between the Ground and the Sphere without dying. This is why there is no way to confirm whether Rudo’s ancestry is set in the Ground or the Sphere.
Although the manga has yet to reveal Canis’s full face and body, he appears as a middle-aged man with a shaggy black beard and messy hair, bearing some resemblance to Regto. In addition, he can be seen wearing a dark coat, and his hands are covered in bandages.
The last record of Canis Surebrec was his will, which Kuro, the Information Broker, shared with Rudo. According to Canis’s will, he had “failed to stop the humans,” and all he could do was bury them. He then told his children to live happy lives as he “breaks the chain.” While the manga has yet to reveal what Canis meant by his will, the Undertaker later ends up killing himself.
