Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode 12 featured the much-awaited fight between Sung Jinwoo vs. the Ant King. While the anime watchers experienced it for the first time, the manhwa readers already knew that Sung Jinwoo would be victorious without breaking much sweat. Even him using Shadow Extraction on the Ant King and make him a part of his Shadow Army was news to many.
The Ant King was named Beru and got the rank of a โGeneral.โ However, Beru did not retain the same level of strength as it had when it was alive. It might raise several questions as to why Beru became weaker than the Ant King, but there is a reason behind it, and it revolves around Sung Jinwoo.

Is Beru Weaker Than Ant King?
Solo Leveling Season 2: Arise from the Shadows Episode 12 highlighted that the Ant King is one of the strongest foes that Sung Jinwoo has ever faced, and he was powerful enough to kill multiple S-Rank Hunters. However, when the protagonist used Shadow Extraction on the Ant King, the level of the Shadow significantly degraded. Even though Beru became the first Shadow Soldier to earn the title of a General, it did not mean that he was on par with his former self.

Jinwoo also extracted the Ant Queenโs Shadow (in Manhwa), and apparently, it turned out to be a General. It was clearly shown in the anime that the Korean S-Rank Hunters took down the Ant Queen without much difficulty, but when it was the Ant King, they could not even contain his aura. So, if both of the shadows have the same rank, it means that Beruโs level was degraded.
Why Did Beru Level Down After Shadow Extraction?
The reason Beru leveled down after Shadow Extraction is that shadows do not retain 100% of the power of their original selves. It makes the shadow soldiers comparatively weaker. Even Igris had leveled down after his shadow was extracted in Solo Leveling Season 1, but significantly improved as the protagonist leveled up. The amount of power it can unleash depends on the caster’s level and potential – in this case, that caster is Jinwoo.
So, if he is not at his full potential, it makes sense that his Shadow Soldiers are also not at their most potent form. However, it does not mean that they never level up. Whenever Sung Jinwoo levels up, his Shadow Soldiers also level up.
Will Beru Become Stronger In The Future?
The System has chosen Sung Jinwoo to be the only hunter capable of leveling up after evey fight. Even though he is yet to reach his peak, he is leveling up at a great pace. Leveling up allows him to gain access to more mana reserves and increase the limit of his Shadow Soldiers. Likewise, it also makes his Shadow Soldiers strong, and Beru will become stronger in the future, gaining several abilities through multiple battles.
